CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – From the outside looking in, Addison Kerr might be a bit of an unsung hero for the St. Thomas More volleyball program.

Kerr, who recently surpassed 1,000 career kills, doesn’t always get the ‘highlight reel’ attention of her outside hitters but those inside the Sabers program are well aware of the value she provides.

“She means everything,” St. Thomas More senior Shannon Monahan said. “I mean she’s one of the best setters that’s come out of this program. To be a senior with her is such an honor because she’s been my best friend for so many years. It’s been so much fun to be a leader with her and lead this group of girls right here.”

On Thursday, Kerr was named the WCIA 3 Athlete of the Week.

She has no problem with letting others get the hype.

“It’s always fun to like celebrate hitters getting the big kill,” Kerr told WCIA. “I never though it’s all going to be about me because that’s not what setting is about. It’s about helping other people be better.”

“We can’t have the season we have without her running the show out there,” St. Thomas More head volleyball coach Brad Dalton said. “It makes my job easier, I can focus more on the defense and know that she’s going to take care of the offense.”

Kerr is now eligible for a $1,000 scholarship given out to one boy and one girl at the end of the school year.
