SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — The village of Savoy has passed a design contract planning improvements to Colbert Park.

MSA Professional Services, Inc. is receiving $364,902 to study and create a design for Colbert Park. According to the contract, some of the proposed ideas include a grand entrance, a skate park, a multiuse trail and the village’s first basketball courts.

The village previously surveyed residents to find out what they would like to be added to the park. 500 people responded with ideas.

“Any time you have a nice park system and green space, you improve the quality of life for the residents,” said John Brown, the Village of Savoy President. “And in fact, the entire community of the larger community.”

The proposal previously failed at a meeting in June. This time around, two more members who were not at the past meeting were present to vote yes, and one member changed their mind.

Colbert Park is approximately 55 acres in size and has a man-made lake inside of it.

According to the contract, the final design is scheduled to be completed by March 2025.
