DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The manager of a Central Illinois animal shelter is suspended indefinitely, and it’s leaving a lot of uncertainty as to what happens next for the facility.

The Douglas County Board made the decision at their meeting Tuesday afternoon and was unwilling to confirm an exact reason for the disciplinary action at this point.

The board told the manager, Spencer Hall, she’s being suspended with pay indefinitely. She is one of just two employees working at the animal shelter.

Last week, she criticized the Douglas County State Attorney’s decision to temporarily resolve a Murdoch dog-abuse case, which resulted in the owner taking back four of the seized dogs from the shelter.

The board did not specify if Hall’s job is in jeopardy moving forward. They did confirm there will be an executive closed-door session in the future to decide the length and severity of the suspension.

At the meeting Tuesday, WCIA asked the board why they decided to suspend Hall. Members said they had no comment.
