DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville Municipal Building could begin to operate on a four-day work week, but the city council will first vote on the proposal at their next meeting.

Tuesday night, the Public Works Committee heard a proposal to change its hours of operation from Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The adjusted hours would include a 30-minute closure from noon to 12:30 p.m. rather than a noon to 1 p.m. closure.

If the council does vote in favor of the new hours, the Public Works building on East Voorhees Street would still continue to be open on Fridays.

At Tuesday night’s meeting, only two members from the Public Works Committee of the City Council voted in favor of the proposal, while five members voted against it, according to Ward 5 Alderman Mike Puhr.

The city council is expected to vote on the new hours at their next meeting on Oct. 15, without a recommendation to pass the proposal.

If the proposal passes, the adjusted schedule would begin Jan. 1, 2025.
