NEOGA, Ill. (WCIA) — An overnight fire in Neoga on Thursday destroyed four different structures, according to the Neoga Fire Department.

Neoga Fire and Ambulance responded to reports of a garage fire at 2 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the Neoga Fire Department, the houses were near Lake Mattoon. When first responders arrived, the two garages that had caught fire collapsed and one house was actively burning. The second house had fire in the walls and attic.

While responding to the fire, the crews discovered someone trapped in one of the homes but were able to safely remove them and bring them to a nearby hospital. The individual has been released from the hospital since then.

Sigel Fire Department, Wabash Fire Protection District and Windsor Fire Protection District worked with Neoga Fire and Ambulance to put the fire out.

First responders were able to clear the scene around 4:30 a.m. but returned around 5 a.m. after reports that “hotspots” had come back.

All four structures that had caught on fire were deemed “total losses” by the fire department. According to Neoga Fire and Ambulance, the houses were “gutted” which made them “unlivable.”

The Fire Marshal Office is actively investigating the cause of the fire.
