    UPDATE: I-57 north near Rantoul reopened after semi-truck fire

    Update: 3:45 p.m.

    RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — All lanes on I-57 are back open after a semi-truck caught fire Thursday.

    The fire happened south of Rantoul near Milepost 248.5. Illinois State Police said the trailer is still on the shoulder waiting to be towed away and they ask that drivers remain cautious as they move through the area.

    ISP also said traffic is still backed up.

    No other information is available at this time.


    RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) — Part of I-57 north is closed after a semi-truck caught on fire Thursday afternoon.

    According to a release sent out by the Illinois State Police, the semi fire happened south of Rantoul, near Milepost 248.5.

    UPDATE: I-55 south reopens near Lincoln after rollover crash

    The right lane is blocked off, which has caused a backup in traffic.

    Illinois State Police asks that drivers use caution when they are traveling around this area, and they ask motorists to use a different route if possible. ISP said Route 45, Route 47 and Country Roads are alternative routes.

    ISP also said the semi fire only caused “property damage.”
