CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A central Illinois group hit the stage Thursday, bringing people together to talk about issues facing the community.

The Champaign County Community Coalition gave a platform to speakers at their monthly meeting who want to bring positive change to the community.

Organizer Tracy Parsons said the Walk-As-One event has been taking place for more than a decade. They said some issues are positive, while others can be tough to talk about, but that’s the point.

“We have some challenges with our schools. We’re able to talk about that a little bit today,” Parsons said. “We’ve got some issues with our homeless population and homeless services. We talked about that today. So, this is a great place. We talked about voting rights. So there’s this, it’s a great place to talk about the most challenging social and economic issues in our community.”

Some of the speakers included Champaign Unit 4 principals, Urbana’s police chief and mental health advocates.
