EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WCIA) — One Effingham High School (EHS) employee is going above and beyond to assist families during hurricane relief in Florida.

On Friday morning, Effingham Unit 40 Schools posted on their Facebook page that Jason Root, a school safety officer assigned to EHS, has traveled to Tampa, Florida.

Root headed there to ride out Hurricane Milton with his grandparents, who are homebound.

His grandparents are fine, but many homes experienced damage in the area. Since the storm hit, Jason has been helping locals remove trees and other debris from their properties.
