    One dead, one critically injured in Christian Co. accident on IL Route 29

    CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A man was fatally injured and a woman received life-threatening injuries in a single-vehicle crash on IL Route 29 Friday night.

    According to Illinois State Police (ISP), the vehicle was traveling southbound on Route 29, just south of North 2200 East Road. ISP Troop 6 units responded to the reports of a single-vehicle fatal accident around 9:30 p.m.

    The driver, a 42-year-old female from Pana, left the roadway to the left, entered a ditch, struck a culvert and came to rest in a ditch for “unknown reasons” according to ISP.

    The driver of the vehicle was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. The passenger, a 60-year-old male from Pana, died in the crash.

    The Friday crash shut down IL Route 29 for part of the night. Around 3:17 a.m., all lanes of traffic were cleared and open for motorists. The accident occurred between North 2200 East Road and East 450 North Road.

    The crash is still under investigation.
