URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Urbana is conducting a Partial Special Census in an effort to correct the inaccurate 2020 Census count.

Special Census Field Representatives will be out and about in the city’s Special Census Blocks.

According to the Urbana City Government Facebook page, here are a few ways you can verify an individual as a Census Bureau employee:

    • The field representative will present an ID badge that includes their name, their photograph, a Department of Commerce watermark and an expiration date

    • They have an official bag and Census Bureau-issued electronic device, such as a laptop or smartphone with the Census Bureau logo on it

    • Representatives conduct their work between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

Residents might also be able to identify them by searching for their name on the United States Census Bureau website .

The city wants to recapture the population they believe was living in Urbana in 2020 but was not counted due to the fact that the University of Illinois switched to remote learning. Many students left the area shortly before the Census was taken on April 1, 2020.

They also want to count multiple new multifamily housing complexes that were built after that time.

This year’s Partial Special Census will be conducted on Oct. 15.
