One dead in Springfield after shots fired

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Springfield police are investigating a homicide that happened overnight on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Around 1:08 a.m., Springfield Police responded to 17th and Cook Streets after reports of shots fired.

When they arrived, they found a male in the front seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound. The male victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries, but he later died.

Springfield Police Department detectives are investigating the incident.

According to Springfield Police, this is an ongoing investigation, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
