URBANA Ill. (WCIA) – An annual event works to keep the mental health conversation alive.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Champaign took strides against the stigma. The walk in Crystal Lake Park was meant to support those struggling with mental illness.

“I think the key is just talking about it, just sharing it and letting people know they’re not alone, and there’s other people who maybe have the same situation,” NAMI Champaign President Carolyn Thompson said.

The walk around the park was followed by an auction, giveaway and multiple tabling events. It was all in an effort to make mental health a more welcomed discussion.

“Being out in the fresh air for an event like this, everyone kind of comes together and helps each other out,” Thompson said.

Thompson said the organization has hosted the walk for at least ten years. Additional NAMI Champaign events can be found here .
