DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people were found guilty for kidnapping a Decatur man in 2022.

In 2022, Decatur Police arrested Ademeko Maclin-Carney for kidnapping a business worker at a flooring company. Police said the man was pepper sprayed, had a gun pointed at him, and was put in the trunk of a car with a bag on his head and zip ties on his wrist.

Maclin told the man to call his wife to demand a $400,000 ransom. He later was able to escape and run to a dry cleaning business after being transported to a second house.

United States Court Central District of Illinois records showed Maclin-Carney and Ausarian Carney faced a federal kidnapping charge after they were indicted in May 2023. A jury delivered a guilty verdict to both on Friday.
