Danville salon, spa damaged by car crash

DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — A salon and spa in Danville was damaged on Monday when a car drove through a wall and into the business.

The crash happened at Studio 31 Salon & Spa on Liberty Street. Danville Police said the driver, an 87-year-old from Chicago, became confused about how hard he pressed the gas pedal; his car crossed both lanes of traffic and hit the building.

Studio 31 posted photos of the damage to their Facebook page. The car punched a hole in the outer wall and ended up inside the building. Racks of merchandise were knocked over and interspersed among the debris.

“It is a very sad day for everyone that has put their blood sweat and tears into our boutique space,” staff said on Facebook. “The amount of damage that happened is unbelievable to look at and sift through. With that being said, it’s all material things that can be replaced and fixed. We thank God that this happened when no one was working or shopping.”

Staff added that the business is still open, and appointments are not being cancelled or postponed.

Danville Police said the driver of the car was the only person hurt during the crash, but he is expected to be okay. He was given a ticket for failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident.
