CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — In a news release Tuesday afternoon, the Charleston Police Department announced that a man had been arrested for domestic battery.

On Oct. 14, at approximately 1:35 p.m., Charleston PD responded to the 1300 block of 18th Street after several disconnected 911 calls. They talked to a man, and a woman who had obvious injuries.

The man, Jean Georges, was arrested for domestic battery.

According to Charleston PD, the female victim reported that she was grabbed by the neck and wrists and was then punched several times in her head and face. She had a swollen lip, redness to her neck, a small laceration on her cheek and multiple abrasions to her forehead.

The woman said the physical altercation started as a verbal argument. She then admitted to striking Georges in self-defense.

Because the defendant recently moved to the area from Florida and had an alleged history of abuse with no local support system, he was placed in the Coles County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The judge determined the need for detention was not met. Georges has been released with “no contact and other pre-trial conditions” according to Charleston PD.
