CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) — A Charleston man is facing multiple charges in connection to a stabbing that happened earlier this month.

Officials with the Charleston Police Department said Wes Hughes stabbed several people on Oct. 5 at Division Street and Tyler Avenue. All of them are expected to be okay.

Hughes fled the scene before officers arrived, but they found him three blocks away and chased him down. Officials said he resisted officers before being subdued and taken into custody.

Hughes is facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and resisting a peace officer. In addition, Charleston Police learned that Hughes is a sex offender who failed to register his address; he’s been charged for that offense too.

Hughes remains in custody at the Coles County Jail after prosecutors proved this was necessary to protect the public. Court records show he requested a public defender and a status hearing is scheduled for Oct. 21.
