DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The Danville City Council has officially partnered with a construction consulting group to plan the development of new fire station facilities.

During the City Council meeting on Tuesday night, the council voted to approve an agreement with Veridus Group, Inc., based in Indiana.

In 2022, the city conducted a study which found that Danville’s three fire stations and training tower were in “poor condition” and were not in an ideal spot to help the city.

Now, Danville is ready to begin Phase 1 of the project, Project Development Services. During this portion of the project, Veridus will help create an early conceptual design and a preliminary cost estimate for three new fire stations and a training facility.

The plans may also include a new headquarters building and two additional substations. The current station would be operated while the new locations, which will be chosen for their location in relation to the city, are being built.

The new headquarters will house the administrative offices, a five bay fire station for nine firefighters, the two-acre training ground and a three-story training tower. The two substations will be able to accommodate four firefighters each, with two apparatus bays.

The agreement between Danville and Veridus Group, Inc. will not cost more than $40,000 for the Programming Services portion of the contract. The council also approved $5,000 for reimbursable expenses during this time.
