CHAMPAIGN, Ill (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is once again being recognized for their work in the field.

After being accredited on Sept. 4, the CPD is being reaccredited as a Tier II Law Enforcement Agency by the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).

This honor is the highest-level possibly attained and was earned because CPD practices and policies meet 181 rigorous professional standards.

Multiple accreditations through ILEAP exemplifies that CPD maintains a high level of professionalism among all law enforcement agencies in Illinois. It also validates the methods used to provide services throughout the Champaign community.

ILEAP is an Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police program, and a Tier II accreditation reflects their highest level of service.

In 2010, the CPD was the second department in the state to undergo assessment through the ILEAP accreditation program. It is now one of just 64 agencies in Illinois to achieve Tier II accreditation, out of more than 1,200 departments across the state.
