Bielema named to watch list for coach of the year award

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Illinois head football coach Bret Bielema is on the watch list for the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year.

On Wednesday, 27 college football coaches were named to the watch list, which is presented annually to a coach who, “recognizes contributions that make the sport better for athletes and fans alike by demonstrating grit, integrity and a winning approach to coaching and life – both on and off the field.”

Bielema has led the Illini to a 5-1 start, including two ranked wins.

The winner will be announced live from Houston’s Post Oak Hotel on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, during an awards ceremony.
