MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) – Monticello football is finding unique ways to build team chemistry.

“Tuesdays we have huddle group games and that’s kind of something just to build team chemistry and bond over and have fun,” Monticello junior utility man Nolan Buehnerkemper said.

The strategy is apparently working. The Sages have won six-straight after dropping their season opener against St. Joseph-Ogden.

“The team has come together, we’ve all taken our responsibility to the next level,” senior quarterback Ike Young said. “We see what we’re up against and we’re just determined.”

Buehnerkemper has done a little bit of everything for MHS. He contributes at quarterback for the JV team, while getting snaps at receiver, safety and kicker at the varsity level.

“He’s a swiss army knife, he can do a little bit of everything,” Young said of Buehnerkemper.

The Sages play Prairie Central on Friday, Oct. 18 in the WCIA 3 Friday Football Fever Spotlight Game of the Week.
