JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — The revamp of a Jacksonville DMV will reduce wait times going forward.

On Oct. 17, the Illinois Secretary of State’s office announced they’re transforming a Jacksonville DMV into a “One-Stop-Shop” design. This will increase efficiency and decrease wait times.

“Since taking office, we’ve made it a top priority to provide exceptional customer service and reduce lines and wait times,” said Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.

This renovation will also include signage updates, creating a more logical flow in telling customers where they need to go.

Due to the revamp, the DMV will be closed from Oct. 21-25. A temporary “pop-up” location will serve customers at 200 W. Douglas Ave. during this time.

This will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and customers can make appointments online.

Once completed, the new experience will save customers multiple steps by offering both driver and vehicle services at a single service counter.

The employees that work with these services at “One-Stop-Shop” DMVs are cross-trained to provide both vehicle and driver services. The office has also redesigned customer service counters and signage in order to create a more logical flow.

At the single service counter, customers will be able obtain the following services:

    • Apply for a REAL ID, new driver’s license or state ID card
    • Renew a driver’s license, state ID or Temporary Visitor Driver’s License (TVDL)
    • Register/renew their vehicle registration and obtain vehicle stickers
    • Order a new license plate
    • Join the Illinois Organ and Tissue Donor Registry

“Our Jacksonville facility is among the first to get this makeover that will give it a modern feel while employing new technology to create efficiencies,” Giannoulias said.

Other DMVs in central Illinois include Taylorville, Charleston and Mattoon.
