DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — Three Danville firefighters are getting recognition for their role in saving a life.

Carle Regional Emergency Medical Services gave Jason Toth, Jack Koller and Lt. Brian Hagg Challenge Coins for their efforts in helping bring a woman back to life.

Officials said a woman went into cardiac arrest, then the firefighters jumped into action, performed C.P.R. and revived her. This played a huge role in making sure she survived.

“First responders, I think, play a very important role into the care that’s given to patients in emergencies.” said Carle Regional E.M.S. Medical Director John Aguilar. “I think their function as emergency care providers is often overlooked, and people take for granted that the care that they provide really impacts our patients’ outcomes.”

Aguilar said giving these awards to worthy candidates is one of his favorite parts of the job. The Arrow Ambulance team that drove the woman to the hospital was honored as well.

The Challenge Coin program just started this spring.
