SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Payrolls jobs were up, and the unemployment rate was stable last month in the state of Illinois.
Friday afternoon, the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced that in September, nonfarm payrolls were up 7,100 while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.3%. This information is based on preliminary data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and released by IDES.

Last month, the industry sectors with the largest job gains over-the-month included:
- Private Education and Health Services (+4,600)
- Leisure and Hospitality (+3,600)
- Government (+2,800)
On the other hand, the largest monthly payroll declines included:
- Financial Activities (-3,000)
- Professional and Business Services (-3,000)
- Construction (-1,300)
“IDES remains a critical workforce tool for jobseekers and employers as new jobs and more opportunities are created throughout the state,” Manar said.

The industry groups with the largest jobs increases included:
- Government (+43,000)
- Private Education and Health Services (+28,500)
- Other Services (+10,000)
On the contrary, the largest job decreases included:
- Professional and Business Services (-32,000)
- Financial Activities (-9,000)
- Information (-3,600)
