    Overnight garage fire extinguished in Mattoon

    MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — Mattoon firefighters extinguished a fire at a garage Thursday night.

    The Mattoon Fire Department responded late Thursday night around 11:30 p.m. to a tree fire near a garage in Mattoon close to the intersection of 9th Street and Rudy Avenue. Dispatchers later learned the wind spread the fire to the garage.

    When crews arrived on scene, they found a detached 24X26 garage on fire for a property on Woodlawn Avenue. Crews deployed two hose lines, and put the fire out in about 15 minutes.

    The fire department considers the garage to be a total loss. Crews left the scene around 2:20 a.m.

    No one was hurt. Investigators are still looking into what caused the fire.

    Coles/Moultrie 911, Mattoon Police Department, Charleston Fire Department, and Ameren all helped MFD with the fire.
