    WATCH: Effingham crews respond to large apartment complex fire

    Update: 8:00 p.m.

    EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Effingham Fire Department rescued several people from a large apartment fire on Sunday.

    The fire department received reports that an apartment complex on Hillside Drive had caught fire around 4 p.m.

    When firefighters arrived, they rescued two residents from the blaze and brought them to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Another resident jumped from a second-story window to escape the fire.

    According to the fire department, 18 people were living in the apartment. The fire department is working with Red Cross to help them find a place to sleep while the apartment complex is uninhabitable.

    Firefighters were able to leave the scene around 7:30 p.m.

    The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Effingham Fire Department.


    EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — The Effingham Fire Department is responding to a fire at an apartment complex near the Culver’s.

    WCIA reached out to officials in the area. Kim Rhodes, Effingham County Coroner said she heard reports of a “massive” fire at that location.

    Rhodes said police, fire, and EMS departments are all on the scene, but she has not received information about any deceased individuals.
