TROY, Ala (WDHN)– A finished investigation revealed more information about the emergency shelter that was ordered at Troy University last Saturday.

Troy Police shut down the campus and ordered an emergency shelter in place on Saturday, October 5, after receiving a report that a person had been spotted with a gun near Newman Hall, a residence hall on campus.

In a release, TUPD Chief George Beaudry said that after several interviews and reviews of surveillance cameras, it was revealed a person holding a camera tripod with a gimbal attachment was mistakenly confused for someone having a gun.

While the threat turned out to be a false alarm, Chief Beaudry warns that citizens should always be on their toes.

“I want to encourage everyone to always be aware of your surroundings and never hesitate to report suspicious or concerning situations,” Chief Beaudry.
