HARTFORD, Ala (WDHN) — Residents in a Hartford neighborhood were woken up by the sound of gunshots from a home on Third Avenue in Hartford early Sunday morning.

The early morning gunfire caught neighbors on the normally quiet street off guard

“Was shocking and surprising at the same time,” Steve Tolver said.

Reports say the scene looked like a warzone, with nearly 50 shell casings lying on the ground after gunfire rang out at a birthday party with almost 50 people in attendance.

Neighbors say the party was going on as planned, but then guests from out of town showed up, and an argument broke out that turned into gunshots being fired through a window of the home.

Three people were caught in the gunfire: one was hit in the leg, another in the arm, and the third was shot in the neck and is being treated at a hospital in Mobile.

Neighbors say this is the first time in a while that a shooting has taken place on their street.

“No, not like this. This is the first time,” said Tolver.

Other neighbors tell us they were traumatized, including one teen who says they can’t believe this shooting happened on a street where a lot of kids live.

No arrests have been made. Due to the Hartford police department’s small size, the State Bureau of Investigation is in charge of the investigation.

It’s an active investigation, and authorities are expected to release new information later this week or early next week.
