DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — The Troy Animal Rescue Project (TARP) will soon have new furry friends after the non-profit organization’s staff undertook a rescue mission in Florida.

Troy Animal Rescue Project’s Director, Tiffany Howington, and the organization’s cat manager made their way to DeSoto County, Florida, on Monday to rescue over twenty cats from a shelter.

Following Hurricane Milton’s devastating impact, DeSoto County was placed under a boil-water notice, leaving the area with little clean drinking water.

Howington said the hope was to help relieve the DeSoto County Animal Shelter and make room for incoming animals seeking shelter from the destruction.

“Countless times, Florida rescues, and fosters have come to our aid to assist with pets from this area. Now it is our turn to return the favor,” Howington said in a social media post. “We are blessed to be able to help our shelter neighbors in need by taking some of the weight off their shoulders while they recover.”

Howlington and her cat manager are returning to Brundidge after having rescued 26.

After returning to Alabama, Howlington says the cats will soon go up for adoption.
