DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — City officials today provided an update on ALDOT’s roadway expansion project along Ross Clark Circle, saying the project is nearing completion.

But, it comes with a traffic pattern change they say will streamline the travel headaches that have characterized the corridor.

According to officials, there are several new changes, including traffic signal placement, median barricading, and truck detours. A full list of changes can be found here .

Dothan’s public works director, Tommy Wright, says this step of phase three is something the city has looked forward to and believes will alleviate travel concerns and business accessibility issues.

He says, “We are looking forward to this next step. this is going to be great. This is good news for us. This is going to enhance the safety of the area. It’s going to give you easier access to these businesses that people may have been struggling to get to over the past several months.”

Officials also responded to claims that the project has either hurt businesses or been botched, saying the project is on course and local business owners have been kept in the loop constantly.

Wright says, “This project has been a success since day one, as far as the project goes. We have quarterly meetings with all the stakeholders in the area…we’ve walked them through the process, letting them understand where we are within the project. There’s no surprise to the business owners. They’ve all been extremely informed throughout this entire process.”
