Houston Academy sweeps Northside Methodist to take area crown

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Houston Academy and Northside Methodist battled on the hard court Thursday night with the 3A area three title up for grabs.

The first two sets were tight throughout, but HA would claim both by a score of 25-21.

In the third set, the Raiders picked up the pace and got out to a sizeable lead before Northside cut into to it.

But in the end, Houston Academy held on in the third, taking the final set 25-16.

The Raiders will be heading to the regional tournament as the number-one seed from the area.

“”We are so excited to be going in seeded one. We are excited to go and be competitive, that is all that we ask, is that we are competitive. That they go out and do the best they can and we know that we can compete with those teams and hopefully, we can move on to the next level,” said Houston Academy head volleyball coach Hannah Braswell.

Northside and Houston Academy will advance to regionals next week in Montgomery.
