GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. ( WDHN ) — An early Saturday morning fire severely damaged a home in Geneva County after a dog kennel caught fire.

On Saturday morning, crews were called to a home in the 100 block of County Road 69 in Fadette after a caller told them their dog kennel caught fire and it was catching the house on fire.

When they arrived, firefighters found a single-wide mobile home engulfed in flames but quickly got it under control.

Luckily no one was injured in the fire, but officials with Fadette Fire Protection District say even though they were able to put out the flames, the home still suffered some major damages.

Firefighters believe a dog at the home knocked over a heat lamp outside, which caught the dog house on fire, where the flames then advanced into the home.

Two of the dogs inside of the kennel made it out unharmed, but one of the dogs inside of the home died.

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the family.

Firefighters from the City of Slocomb Fire-Rescue and Malvern Volunteer Fire and Rescue assisted Fadette crews.

Heat lamps like that for kennel use should have a mercury switch for auto disrupting the circuit if tipped over
