GREENVILLE, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Greenville City Schools have returned to class after last Tuesday’s destructive tornado.

The district spent the past week cleaning up, waiting for power to be restored, and preparing to welcome back students.

After three days without school, classes in the Greenville school district resumed on Monday, May 13. The EF-1 tornado ripped through the community, causing serious damage to the high school’s tennis court. Trees were also uprooted around school grounds.

The storm ripped out a row of bleachers at the school’s football stadium. In other parts of the community, the tornado left behind damage to homes, businesses, and Greenville City Park.

Since then, the community has rallied together to clean up and begin repairs.

Lonnie Moyer is the parent of a senior at Greenville High School. He lives right across the street from the school. He says it’s going to take a community effort to make it all the way back.

“Continuing to help one another out and stand beside one another and try and get the community to look as much as like it used to. But it’s going to be kind of hard to do with all everything we’ve lost out here,” said Moyer.
