TIPP CITY, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The Tipp City School Board met Tuesday night to discuss staff cuts coming to the district.

Officials say tonight’s layoffs include administrators and non-teaching staff.

Teachers in the district were notified that 18.5 of them would be losing their jobs in April. Due to retirements, that number has since dropped to 14.

According to staff, those losing their jobs have already been notified.

“Some of them have been recently hired and had been expecting it, while some were blindsided, but everyone is devastated to leave Tipp City,” said Brenda Mahaney, teacher and president-elect of the Tipp City Schools Education Association.

This comes after the district passed a bond issue for a new building . Those funds are not to help with operating costs like salaries. In April, the district’s superintendent said the school has a $1.9 million deficit.

Teachers’ last day with students will be May 31. On June 30, teachers will be laid off.
