Man shot by officer after reported kidnapping, robbery pleads guilty

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The man shot by police after a reported kidnapping and robbery has pled guilty.

Enrique Perez Mendez pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and aggravated menacing charges.

Prosecutors say Mendez robbed a store in Riverside and kidnapped someone in October 2023. He allegedly forced them to go into the Meijer in Kettering to withdraw money. While the victim was inside, Mendez took off.

Police searched for Mendez, with an off-duty officer shooting him in a nearby home.

The Grand Jury declined to indict the officer who shot Mendez.

Sentencing for Mendez is set for July 31.
