DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Dozens of buildings are set to be razed in the Miami Valley after the state OK’d money for the task.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine approved funding to demolish 1,277 structures across Ohio. In the Miami Valley, a combined 85 buildings will be removed across Butler, Clinton, Logan and Preble counties.

According to DeWine, the demolition of the various properties are needed to further grow Ohio communities. While a few properties in Fairfield are expected to be erased for commercial redevelopment, a “safety concern” site in Preble County could be sold and turned into a housing development.

“These buildings are standing in the way of progress, so it’s time to knock them down,” said DeWine. “Once these structures are gone, we expect to see new economic development opportunities coming into these neighborhoods.”
