COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WDTN ) — The nation’s largest recycling center has officially opened in central Ohio.

On Aug. 6, Rumpke Waste & Recycling opened Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center, a new $100 million recycling facility in Columbus. At the new site, crews take materials from 50 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

“Our Rumpke Recycling & Resource Center ensures enough recycling capacity to serve the long-term needs as the region’s commercial development continues and the population tops an estimated 3 million,” said Andrew Rumpke, president of Rumpke.

The new location allows workers to increase productivity. Instead of processing 30 tons of material per hour, the new facility will allow 60 tons to be processed per hour.
