DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Governor of Ohio is looking to ready state agencies in support of areas in northeast Ohio ravaged by severe storms this week.

Gov. DeWine authorized that “all State departments and agencies to be at the ready and to utilize their personnel and resources as necessary to protect the lives, safety, health, and property of the citizens of Ohio and to assist with recovery efforts in communities impacted by this severe weather event if needed and requested by local authorities.”

Reporting from our partner station in Cleveland, Fox 8 WJW , documents that a series of tornadoes struck the northeast Ohio area on Tuesday, Aug. 6. With wind gusts exceeding 100 miles per hour, thousands were reported without power as a result. Over 130,000 people in Cuyahoga County alone are in the dark.

With all of that, more storms hit the region on Thursday into Friday morning, resulting in flash flooding along the highway and water rescues .

In a release from Gov. DeWine’s office, it is stated that the Ohio Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the situation and is coordinating state agency response. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio are doing the same.

So far, the only request for state assistance has come from the Department of Health, who requested assistance with obtaining medical supplies.

The full proclamation can be read here .
