DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Dayton Police Department sergeant has been terminated after being placed on leave for more than a year.

According to Dayton Police, Joseph Setty was terminated by the department on Aug. 9. Setty was on leave while investigations were conducted by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and department.

In March 2023, Setty was first placed on administrated leave while Ohio BCI conducted its investigation into allegations against him. In May, Setty was found guilty on two counts of disorderly conduct and one county of unlawful restraint. He later received probation as his sentence.

DPD reports the department then began an administrative investigation, at which time he was placed on unpaid leave.

“The decision to terminate Joseph Setty’s employment reflects our dedication to maintaining the trust and confidence of our community,” said Kamran Afzal, chief of Dayton Police. “We are committed to our core values of professionalism, integrity, fairness, and respect. I will continue to ensure that our officers adhere to the highest ethical standards.”
