GREENVILLE, Ohio (WDTN) — A concerning scam is still circulating around the Miami Valley.

The Darke County Sheriff’s Office reports several residents have received phone calls of someone claiming to be either David Tanner or Jason Wheatly with the department. During the call, the con artist tells the resident they have a warrant out for their arrest and have missed jury duty.

Local woman’s phone call takes dark turn

“He is stating that they need to go to Walmart and purchase a money card or we will come and arrest them,” said the DCSO.

It is important to remember law enforcement will never call you demanding money, especially in the form of a gift or money card. While on the phone with people that you truly don’t know, it’s best to hang up and not give any personal information or money to them.

If you do receive a scam call, you can reach out to your local police department to report it.
