MIAMI COUNTY, Ohio (WDTN) — Another day, another scam to be wary of.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a new scam that is becoming more frequent in the area.

Jury Duty scam targeting Darke County residents

The office said on social media that the scam entails the victim receiving a phone call from the scammer claiming to be an employee of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office. The scammer will leave a message saying that they need to discuss a legal matter with the receiver and will then provide them with a call back number.

The sheriff’s office says that these calls are not legitimate.

Residents are reminded to not call a number given over a message without verifying it first. Calls can be verified by calling the records section at 937-440-6085 during business hours or the non-emergency dispatch center after business hours at 937-440-9911.

“It should also be noted that no member of the Miami County Sheriff’s Office will call you and ask for your personal information or for you to provide any type of payment,” the sheriff’s office posted.
