    Ohio awards Charter $17.4M for local broadband project

    DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Funding has been awarded to two companies in an effort to enhance broadband across six local counties.

    Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that Charter has received $17,471,275 to allow broadband access to a combined 6,645 homes across Auglaize, Butler, Logan, Montgomery, and Preble counties. Brightspeed has also received funding of $11,358,720, which will provide access to numerous counties, including Shelby County.

    “Having reliable, high-speed internet is an essential part of our world today,” said DeWine. “Providing Ohio’s unserved areas with dependable, affordable broadband access will enhance economic growth and create new opportunities where they didn’t previously exist.”

    When the project is complete, homes can reportedly expect to see internet speeds at a minimum of 100/100 Mbps.
