DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A drug store chain has announced the closure of all locations in the Miami Valley.

According to Rite Aid, which filed for bankruptcy in Oct. 2023, all locations in western, central and southern Ohio will permanently close by the end of September.

The company told WDTN.com that it would only operate four stores in Ohio beginning Oct. 1.

The decision to close a store is not one we take lightly. We carefully consider various factors in our decision-making, including our overall business strategy. In addition, we were required to go through a retail sale process as part of our Chapter 11 process, which allows prospective buyers to bid on parts of our business. As a result, we made the difficult but necessary business decision to exit these markets. While we have had to make difficult business decisions over the past several months to improve our business and optimize our retail footprint, we are committed to becoming financially and operationally healthy.”

If you are a patient who utilizes Rite Aid pharmacy, prescriptions will likely be transferred to a nearby Walgreens location, according to the company.
