    Fairmont beats Alter 24-7, Firebirds win Battle of Kettering for fourth straight year

    KETTERING, Ohio (WDTN) – For the fourth consecutive season Fairmont defeated Alter in the Battle of Kettering, as the Firebirds win the 57th edition of the cross-town rivalry 27-4 in Thursday night’s season opener.

    Fairmont has now won five of the last six meetings against Alter.

    Running back Logan Doty posted a three-touchdown night for Fairmont, rushing for 92 yards on 26 carries. Skyler Slifer snagged a crucial interception in the 4th quarter that led to another Firebirds score to put the game away.

    Alter’s lone touchdown of the night came from their senior quarterback, Gavin Connor in the second quarter with 100 total passing yards on the night.

    Fairmont (1-0) will now look make it two straight wins when they face Trotwood-Madison for a fourth straight year in a week 2 showdown. The Firebirds have won two of the last three against the Rams.

    Alter (0-1) will seek its first win of the year against Withrow back at Roush Stadium next Friday night.
