Dayton officers shoot armed suspect overnight

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Officers fired on an armed suspect late on Friday night.

According to the Dayton Police Department, officers were sent out to the 900 block of Custer Place on reports of an individual with a weapon. This occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 23.

Upon arrival, officers located an individual with a firearm. After several commands were given to drop the firearm, officers discharged their weapons.

The individual was struck and then taken into custody. Medics transported the individual to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police report they are in stable condition.

Two weapons were recovered at the scene.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the criminal investigation. DPD’s Professional Standards Bureau will conduct an administrative investigation as well.

DPD says they will offer additional information on Monday.
