    Keeping cool during heatwave in Dayton: cooling centers, splash pads

    DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Looking to cool off in Dayton during the heatwave?

    Temperatures are expected to reach the 90s this week, with a heat index over 100 degrees. The city of Dayton urges preparation for excessive heat conditions including cooling options. Staying indoors in air conditioning is highly recommended, and there are free options in Dayton.

    Residents can visit one of three recreational from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday:

    • Greater Dayton Recreation Center – 2021 W. Third Street
    • Lohrey Recreation Center – 2366 Glenarm Ave.
    • Northwest Recreation Center – 1600 Princeton Drive
    Keeping pets safe during a heat advisory

    City officials encourage residents to have fun and cool off at one of the area splash pads, which are also free to enjoy. The parks are open daily from noon to 8 p.m.

    • Five Oaks Spray Park 329 Five Oaks Ave.
    • Mallory Park 3037 Germantown Street
    • McIntosh Park 882 W. Riverview Ave.
    • Stuart Patterson Spray Park 238 Baltimore Street
    • Walnut Hills Spray Park 2340 Block of Wayne Ave.
    • Washington Park 3620 E. Second Street

    Those who must be outside are encouraged to hydrate frequently and stay shaded as much as possible. Pets should also remain indoors and be provided with plenty of water during this time.
