SPRINGFIELD, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Dozens of Springfield residents gathered outside of city hall Tuesday night protesting the city’s leadership.

Inside and outside city hall, people gathered to air their grievances. People stood outside the doors holding American flags and signs calling for Mayor Rob Rue to step down.

Concerns have been raised over how the city is handling the influx of Haitian immigrants.

Residents arrived at city hall before its regularly scheduled meetings to protest what they’re calling a mismanagement of the city’s resources. Despite the city’s request for federal aid , some residents say there needs to be more change.

Among the concerns is housing, especially with homeless living around the city. Others discussed the strain public services are feeling due to the population influx.

The leader of the Haitian Community Support Center was also in attendance. They said they’re confident these growing paints will eventually subside.

“We are here to help. The Haitian Help and Community Support Center is around just to work with city officials just to see how we can make this better. Every new beginning has its own challenges,” said Viles Dorsainvil.

City commissioners spent the night listening to concerns. 2 NEWS is working to learn where Springfield’s request for federal assistance currently stands.
