RICHMOND, Ind. — A Dayton woman has been arrested and charged after police say she supplied the fentanyl that led to an overdose death in Richmond.

The Richmond Police Department announced the arrest of Kimberly Jo Smith on Tuesday following a lengthy investigation that involved multiple interviews, evidence collection and other detective work that was performed at the original location where the deadly overdose occurred.

Police did not specify which location in Richmond the overdose was reported to have taken place or the date of the incident.

RPD’s investigation led them to Dayton, Ohio, where its narcotics team collaborated with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office R.A.N.G.E. team to find and detain Smith outside her residence.

“Let this serve as a clear warning: We will not tolerate those who bring this toxic drug into our community. We will hold you accountable, and you will face justice,” said Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly.

RPD said Smith is currently awaiting extradition back to Wayne County where she has been preliminary charged with dealing resulting in death, which is a level 1 felony.
