    December hit and run case dismissed after suspect’s death

    RIVERSIDE, Ohio (WDTN) — A man indicted for his part in a fatal hit and run last year has died.

    Following the death of Jared Koger, the man indicted as the driver of the vehicle that struck 14-year old Brianna McCarthy , the case has been dismissed according to court documents from the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

    Koger’s cause of death was due to a septic infection, which occurred on July 13, 2024. Koger’s family submitted a motion to dismiss the case on July 15, which was granted by the court on July 18. In the motion, Koger’s death was confirmed by his mother.

    The hit and run crash occurred on Dec. 2 in the area of Woodman Drive and Burkhardt Road right before 9:30 p.m. McCarthy was known as a scholar, an artist, an outgoing, helpful and caring person.

    Koger had been charged with the third degree felony charge of failure to stop after a traffic incident resulting in a fatality. After his initial arrest, he was released from custody due to medical reasons.
