DPD seeking witnesses to weekend shooting that injured 5 people

DAYTON, Ohio ( WDTN ) — Five people are recovering from a shooting over the weekend in Dayton that led a group of injured individuals to a local hospital.

Investigators say the incident occurred near an after-hours liquor establishment. Three days later, they’re still on the lookout for the shooter.

Dayton Police say five people ranging in age from 21 to 36 were shot, some of them several times. However, none of them were at the scene when officers responded to the call. Evidence of a violent crime was present at the scene, including shell casings.

About an hour after later, police say five people showed up at Miami Valley Hospital with gunshot wounds. All of those injured are expected to recover.

Police later learned one shooter was involved, though they have not yet been identified. They say witnesses can play a key role in locating the suspect.

“We know there were people there besides our victims who knew what happened. We realize this is an illegal establishment. But really our goal here is to bring the person who fired this many shots into a crowd to justice,” said Major Brian Johns with the Dayton Police Department.
