1 person dead after crash on I-75 NB in Shelby County

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio ( WDTN ) — A fatal three-vehicle crash on northbound Interstate 75 in Shelby County closed lanes indefinitely this afternoon.

According to the Piqua Post of Ohio State Highway Patrol, Iurie Chetrusca, 43, of Strongsville succumbed to fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

A preliminary investigation by OSP revealed that a 2015 International semi traveling northbound on I-75 was struck from behind by a 2020 Freightliner, which was then struck by a 2023 Volvo tractor-trailer, driven by Chetrusca.

The International came to rest along the right shoulder of the interstate. The Freightliner became disabled in the roadway and the trailer caught on fire, as well as the cab and trailer of the Volvo.

The driver of the International reported no injuries. The driver of the Freightliner was transported to Saint Rita’s Medical Center by ambulance with minor injuries.

OHGO cameras show lane closures and traffic being diverted from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
